& COURSES

  • The Box is simply that — a box.

It also manages to be a practical, liberating and endlessly adaptable device that can be used in devising, writing, improvisation and scene or character study processes. Developed over twenty years of theatre-making, it has evolved into one of the most powerful and useful approaches in my toolkit.

  • The Funhouse provides a structured approach to devising in real-time — and in front of a real live audience.

Perfectly suited for solo performance pieces and for group scenes, the results are as thrilling for the audience as they are for the performers.

  • This workshop will help groups of actors and devisers to develop key collaborative skills in order to work together most effectively — nurturing a vital sense of collaboration over competition.

  • Devising can be challenging and frustrating, but when ideas are flowing, it can also feeling liberating and magical.

This workshop is designed to help participants tap into the fun and the flow of the generation process.

  • For many actors, the very thought of having improvise can fill them with dread.

This is totally understandable, when they've had little or no training in how to improvise, or are holding onto misconceptions about what it means and what it involves.

  • This workshop explores a highly practical, instinctive approach for actors working on text-based, devised or improvised projects. The process encourages the actor to consider and use the audience as their most important collaborator.

  • This workshop explores a highly practical, instinctive approach for directors who work with actors on text-based, devised or improvised projects. The process encourages the director to consider and use the audience as their most important collaborator.

In addition to the existing workshops above, I’m able to develop bespoke workshops and courses, including modules at drama schools and universities.

Gareth’s approach is grounded in curiosity and care. As a facilitator, he is playful, respectful and deeply thoughtful. He always meets a group where they are and guides them towards meaningful, high-quality outcomes.

Working with artists-in-training is one of my absolute favourite things to do.

Helping to shape future generations of artists is endlessly rewarding. I also discover lots about my own craft and my own values at the same time.

If you’re interested in working with me via your drama school or university, you can find out more about my experience and approaches to training, as well as opportunities for bespoke module development here.
